Love in a Mist or Nigella seeds Latin name: Nigella damascena Annual, blue, pink, mauve and white flowers, 25 seeds per package. Seeds have been organically grown – no pesticides, sprays, chemical fertilizers. Love-in-a-Mist is a hardy annual with very fine, threadlike foliage and charming 1 and ½ inch flowers at the end of each branch. An excellent cut flower it also forms interesting horned seed capsules, which are beautiful in dried arrangements. Comes into bloom very quickly. Reseeds easily. Sow seeds outdoors in fertile, well-drained soil as soon as the ground can be worked. Choose a location that receives at least 6 hours of sun each day. Gardeners in milder climates can sow seeds in October and overwinter the plants. Germination takes 10-25 days. Transplants are not usually successful because of the plant’s long taproot. Type: annual Light: Full sun Flower Color: usually blue, also pink, lavender and purple Bloom Time: spring and early summer Height: 14-20 inches Width: 6-12 inches Soil Requirements: well drained, fertile Zones: USDA zones 1-11. Does not bloom well in very hot climates Thin seedlings to about six inches apart. Water the plants deeply during dry spells. Expect flowers about three months after seeding. Flowers last only a month or two, but you can seed successively for a longer flowering season.
