The blue wild indigo (Baptisia australis) seeds available from Chestnut Hill Nursery are suitable for outdoor planting in dry to medium conditions. This purple-flowered leafy perennial, which is part of the pea family, Fabaceae, thrives in full sun. The seeds will need at least a month of cold stratification (a cold, moist period) before they will germinate. Seeds are harvested from both cultivated beds on our farm and local populations in and around Lancaster County, PA.
