When the Acadians made their way into this region in 1776, the Choctaw and Chickasaw tribes were cultivating a variety of tobacco with a distinctive flavor. Easy to grow. Fresh 2023 Crop! A farmer named Pierre Chenet is credited with first turning this local tobacco into what is now known as Perique in 1824 through the technique of pressure-fermentation. Caribbean/Cuban Style Cigar Blend Seed Kit This kit includes 1000+ seed of each individually packaged Corojo 99, Habano 2000 and Dominican Republic Olor. It is everything you need to create a quintessential Cuban Style cigar and best of all it is at a discount to buying the seed packs individually. An additional small “sample” of tobacco seed often finds its way in to my orders as well. Corojo 99 is highly sought after as a wrapper by many prestigious well-known cigar manufactures. When aged, Corojo 99 produces a dark brown silky oily wrapper that is described as having rich flavors of cedar, spice, pepper, nutmeg and earth. In addition to producing a supreme wrapper leaf Corojo 99 also makes an excellent bold full-flavored binder and filler. It’s tough to find a more recognized cigar wrapper than Habano 2000. Habano 2000 is the rich, spicy, dark wrapper found on many award-winning commercial cigars. It makes an excellent binder and filler for cigars as well and delivers the classic Cuban/Caribbean style flavor that makes a great cigar so enticing. Dominican Republic Olor is widely grown and used as one of the main components of many cigars produced in the Dominican Republic. It can serve as both a binder and wrapper although it’s more traditionally used as a filler. It will pair nicely with Corojo 99 and/or Habano 2000 and makes an excellent “Cuban style” cigar. The plants typically get a little over 6 feet tall but I’ve had them get huge, over ten feet tall, when grown in sheltered locations and allowed to flower. If you are just starting out with growing tobacco to make your own cigars the long ageing time required by some varieties may seem discouraging at first. Many Cuban seed cigar varieties (Corojo 99, Habano 2000, and Dominican Republic Olor) require a long ageing time of about 2 years to reach their full potential. This ageing period can be greatly reduced to about 2-3 months if the leaf is kilned (stored at 125 degrees F and 70% relative humidity) for 1-2 months prior to ageing. There is plenty of info online about how to make a tobacco kiln. Some home growers in warm climates also have success storing their tobacco at medium case (i.e. moist enough to be pliable when touched) in hot attics over the summer in lieu of building a kiln. All of these cigar varieties can also be used in pipe and chewing tobacco blends as well (with little ageing time required). All plants were grown here in the beautiful USA and seed was collected from bagged flower heads to ensure varietal purity. I do not use any non-organic pesticides, fungicides or herbicides on my plants. It is grown in Greece and Black Sea region of Turkey. The word Basma comes from the Turkish word meaning “to compress”. Turkish varietals, unfortunately, are no longer available, even to professional blenders. VERY RARE! AROMATIC ORIENTAL HARMANLI TOBACCO SEEDS 0.2 gram 2000+ seeds HARMANLI is an Aromatic Oriental variety from the Black Sea region of Turkey. It is a basibali type resembling Samsun, but coarser and stronger. It grows 8′-9′ in height and reaches bloom in 45-55 days. HEAVY PRODUCER! This is a very large growing tobacco for an oriental type, reaching 8′-9′ in height and producing up to 35 leaves per plant. The leaves average 14″ to 16″ wide and up to 24″ in length. It is a very aromatic tobacco with a unique flavor with very good yields. Good disease resistance to tobacco mosaic virus. Matures in 70 days. Cured leaf is fine textured and elastic with a reddish color. It is strong tasting but has a mild aroma. Tastes Best Sun Cured. No Additional Fermentation is necessary.
