Yarrow, Golden Parker – 100 Seeds – Medicinal Herb – Pollinator Friendly

PLANTING INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED WITH EVERY ORDER! Golden Yarrow (Achillea Filipendulina Parker) – 200 Seeds Description:Readily established from Yarrow seeds, Achillea Parker is an upright, clump-forming perennial which is noted for its deeply-dissected, fern-like, aromatic, grayish-green foliage. It is also known for its tiny, long-lasting, bright golden flowers which appear in dense, flattened clusters that can measure up to 4 inches across. It sometimes is referred to as Fernleaf Yarrow. Yarrow flowers bloom throughout the summer and fall on stiff, erect stems reaching 36 – 48 inches in height. The Yarrow herb was important throughout the centuries as a medicinal herb. Many people grew the herb seeds for a plant that was useful in the treatment of wounds. Achillea Yarrow grows best in lean soils with dry to medium moisture that are well-drained. Yarrow plants like positions in full sun and protected from strong winds. Yarrow makes excellent cut flowers. They also dry well for crafts and dried flower arrangement. To dry Yarrow, hang it upside down in a dry, dark, well-ventilated place. The foliage retains it’s somewhat spicy aroma even once it is dried. Medicinal Properties:Yarrow is a well-known diaphoretic herb which has long been used to reduce fevers and clear up congestion colds, flu, and other upper respiratory infections. It is also an excellent herb for cleansing programs, for which 2-3 dropperfuls of the tincture are added to hot water or cleansing teas and used in conjunction with saunas and sweating therapy. When used cold, the herb has the ability to clear heat and toxins, especially nitrogenous waste products from the body through the urine. As a bitter tonic, it is used for lack of appetite, general debility, and convalescence. Yarrow helps regulate blood flow throughout the body, and coupled with its antiinflammatory action, it can relieve pain from arthritis and rheumatism. As a blood mover, it is also indicated for menstrual irregularities, such as sluggish or painful menses, delayed menstruation, and painful and heavy periods, having a mild pain-relieving effect as well as helping to remove blood congestion. It helps relieve spasms and inflammation and is sometimes helpful for irritable bowel complaints, colic, and intestinal and uterine cramps. Yarrow root is chewed to alleviate toothache. Planting Instructions:Sow Yarrow seeds indoors 6 – 8 weeks before frost season ends. Use starter trays or small pots. Press the herb seeds into the soil but do not cover. Light aids germination, so sow shallowly. Keep Achillea seeds moist until germination. Or, after frost danger has passed, directly sow Yarrow flower seeds outdoors in prepared soil. Press seed into the soil and space 30 inches apart. Elderberry, Blue – 50 Seeds – Culinary & Medicinal – NonGMO (Sambucus caerulea)

Blue Elderberry (Sambucus caerulea) – 50 Seeds Description:Our favorite among the elderberry plants, sambucus cerulea is a large, deciduous shrub, which can grow to be 30 ft in height and 20 ft in width. It is distinguishable from other elderberries by the glaucous powder coating on its bluish-black berries. Blue Elderberry can adapt and thrive in many different environments. It is fast-growing, but is easily pruned to keep small or in shape. It is a vigorous grower with shallow roots and can perform well as a deciduous edible hedge or windscreen. Once established, it is very low-maintenance for its lifetime, making it a great plant for the lazy gardener – and if you don’t harvest its fruit, the wildlife surely will! Native Americans used virtually every part of this special tree for either food, medicine, or materials to make tools. Culinary Properties:Elderberries are considered minor fruits, in comparison to blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Although raw blue and purple elderberries are bitter and unpleasant tasting if eaten raw, and contain alkaloids that may cause nausea, they can be cooked or processed to make jams, jellies, wine, pies, flavored vinegars and teas. Uses for elderberry syrup include as a homemade soda base, a mixer for cocktails, an immune system booster, a base for elderberry ice cream, as a garnish for other ice creams, or as a glaze for poultry. Elderberry syrup is also great in a classic Cumberland sauce. Medicinal Properties:Elderberries are clinically proven to boost your immune system and are extremely useful for fighting the flu. It contains compounds that keep the flu virus from attaching to the cell, so it can shorten the duration of your illness and possibly lesson the severity. Planting Instructions:OUTDOORS: By far the easiest method is to direct sow outdoors in the fall and let Mother Nature do it’s thing over the winter to break the dormancy. Sow at 1/4″ depth, 10 feet apart, and 3-4 seeds per plant. Keep moist, but not wet. INDOORS: Starting inside, elderberry is a long term, multiple stage process that needs BOTH scarification (soaking) and stratification (warm/cold treatment) to break the dormancy. Basically, we’re trying to replicate what occurs naturally in nature. It’s a long process, but one that we find is extremely rewarding. Elderberry is finicky and it’s such a gratifying feeling when you first see seedlings pop up. This paper is an excellent source to compare techniques and germination rates… https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_PLANTMATERIALS/publications/mipmcrj11674.pdf Germination rates vary wildly depending on technique from 5% with no seed prep to this technique which achieves roughly a 73% germination rate which is quite high for Elderberry. We highly recommend it. STAGE 1 – SCARIFICATIONThe fastest method is to soak the seeds in sulfuric acid for 10 mins and then thoroughly rinse. The seeds are then ready for Stage 2. The slower, but safer and easier method is to soak the seeds in HOT (175F) water for 10 minutes, allow to cool and continue to soak at room temperature for 24 hours. STAGE 2 – WARM STRATIFICATIONAfter the soaking (scarification), the seeds will need a warm period. Place the seeds into a plastic bag with moist peat moss and place it into a warmer area of roughly 72-75° for 60 days occasionally checking to ensure the moss remains damp. STAGE 3 – COLD STRATIFICATIONAfter the warm stratification, we will move to a cold period to break the dormancy. Place the damp peat moss seed bag into the refrigerator for 60 days occasionally checking to make sure moss remains damp. Here’s a link to a video demonstrating the cold stratification technique… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2XVXBqSWaI STAGE 4 – FINALLY READY TO SOWAfter that process (I know it’s long), sow seeds at 3-4 seeds per pot at 1/4″ depth with pH 5.2 to 5.14 mix and put pots in a warm, sunny area. Water regularly to ensure the soil is moist, but not wet. Allow 45 days to germinate. STAGE 5 – TRANSPLANTThe seedlings can be transplanted when they are a few inches tall. Shipping:All orders come in a resealable plastic zip lock bag labeled with growing instructions. If stored properly, your seeds can last for years. All seeds have been tested to ensure the highest germination rate possible. Our seeds have no weeds or fillers mixed in. You will get 100% of the seed you ordered. We do our absolute best to get all orders placed before 4pm out that day. Orders placed after 4pm will ship the following day. If you have any questions, please contact us at any time. It’s no wonder since stinging nettle greens are loaded with antioxidants as well as lutein, lycopene and iron. The health benefits aside, stinging nettles are also delicious. It is still sometimes used in modern herbalism. The leaves and flowering stems are carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic and stimulant.
