USDA Growing Zones 5-9 Wisteria Germination: 1)Unlike many seeds, wisteria seeds dont require very high temperatures to germinate. But, be Sure to Keep nighttime temperatures above 55 degrees Fahrenheit and daytime temperatures around 75 F. 2)The tough outer hulls need to be weakened slightly to allow the embryo inside to germinate. To scarify them,Rub a file against the edge of the seed to thin the shell works well. Be careful not to go too deep, which will prevent them from germinating. 3)After scarifying the seeds, soak them in hot water for 24 hours to hydrate and further soften the shell. Use a thermos to keep the water warm. 4)Its best to start the seeds in individual 3-inch pots to give the seedlings plenty of space to grow for their first few weeks of life. 14 seeds from my own Vine as pictured. Wisteria is a beautiful, colorful, versatile, fast growing, easy to care for vine. The hanging clusters of purple flowers provide quite a show in the late spring. It can be grown as a vine, a tree or a shrub. It is the perfect vine to use against a wall, fence, trellis or arbor.(please be carful if planting against siding, it grows quickly and can pop your siding) With a little special training it can be coaxed into a tree. With pruning it can be maintained as a shrub. Wisteria loves a bright sunny spot in the garden, but will do equally well in partial sun. Attracts birds and butterflies, and our much needed bees! ****Pictures are from my plants, and seeds are from my plants. Please soak in warm water for 24 hours, it is recommended to nick / notch the seed, germination can take up to 30 days, please keep moist and in 70 degrees with lots of sunshine
