The ROCKY MOUNTAIN BEE PLANT appears in the records of the Lewis & Clark expedition back in 1804. It was officially classified Cleome serrulata in 1817. The plant was used extensively as a dye, also for medicines and food. The Bee Plant grows fast and starts blooming in May, the blooms continue until the first frost. The bloom spikes are covered with small purple/pink flowers and will grow to over 4' tall. The flowers give off a scent bees and butterflies can't resist, also hummingbirds. The Bee Plant goes strong until the first frost and then dies. If you leave a few blooms to die on the plant, it will reseed itself. The Bee Plant evolved in the Rocky Mountains, so the seeds need to be stratified before a early spring planting. 100+ Quality heirloom seeds. Some American Native Wildflower seeds need to go through a cold winter to germinate. This plant is one of them. They do this so the seed won’t sprout in fall, only to have the seedling not make it through a cold winter. I have stratified these seeds to simulate a cold winter(stratification) This raises the germination rate considerably. Thanks for looking!!Cleome serrulata.
