This quick and easy to grow cool-season root vegetable produces round white bulbs with a purple top with interior flesh that is pure white. Ideally, turnips should be grown on the ‘shoulder seasons,’ like in the early spring and fall since they do best when the weather is cool. All around, this root crop is fairly problem-free, low maintenance and can even be grown in large containers for porch or balcony gardens. Purple Top Turnips have a fine-grained inner flesh with a tender texture and mildly sweet peppery flavor. The lobed-shaped foliage is also edible and can be cooked alongside other greens like Red Russian Kale.
