Acrocarpus fraxinifolius, commonly known as pink cedar or Indian ash, is a large deciduous tree native to South Asia. It can reach impressive heights of 40-60 meters (130-200 feet) and has a straight, cylindrical trunk with smooth, grayish-brown bark. The leaves are pinnate, with 6-9 pairs of leaflets, giving the canopy a lush and feathery appearance. Acrocarpus fraxinifolius is prized for its timber, which is durable, moderately heavy, and resistant to termites. It produces fragrant, pinkish-purple flowers in large panicles, adding to its visual appeal. The flowers develop into long, flat seed pods that contain numerous small, winged seeds. Zones 9-11GerminationTo germinate Acrocarpus fraxinifolius seeds, soak them in warm water for 24 hours to soften the hard seed coat. Scarify the seeds by nicking or filing the outer shell to enhance water absorption. Sow the seeds in well-draining soil and cover them lightly. Maintain a consistently moist environment and provide warmth between 25-30°C (77-86°F). Germination can take 2-4 weeks or longer.
