Callicarpa acuminata is a shrub in the Lamiaceae family. A native to Mexico through Latin America to Bolivia. It grows 8 feet wide and tall. This species produces dark purple to blackberries, while the other genus species have light purple and white berries. The flowers are white to pale pink and produce the berries in huge clumps like some grapes. It is effortless to grow. It likes full sun or shade. It blooms in the Summer. The birds, deer, bees, and butterflies are attracted to it. The berries are edible but not delicious. Jellies and jams are made from berries. Zones 8-11 Germination Soak seeds for 24 hours. Sow seeds 1/2" deep, then tamp seeds into the soil and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 30-60 days.
