Catnip Seeds Nepeta Cataria Puurfect Garden Treat 4 Your Cat (1000 to 5000 SEEDS) Catnip is fragrant, and it the absolute favorite of cats! The plants also attract bees, birds, & butterflies. Catnip is a member of the mint family and is a hardy perennial that has a distinctive fragrance that is intensely attractive to most cats. It is native to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The small, white flowers are attractive to bees. Grows best in full sunlight and average, well-drained soils. Drought tolerant and deer resistant. The essential oil has mosquito repellent qualities. Catnip can reseed aggressively – cut off spent flower stalks before they drop seed. GROWING INFO Sow seeds indoors in February and March, and transplant or direct sow in April and May. Can also be direct sown where it is to grow in September. Bottom heat will speed germination. Ideal temperature for germination: 21-27°C (70-80°F). Seeds should sprout in 10-20 days. Plant seeds 1/8" to 1/4" deep. Sow on the soil surface or barely covered with perlite. Thin plants or transplant to 30cm (12″) apart. Keep seedlings well protected from cats! Catnip does very well in containers, raised beds, or borders in full sun to partial shade. The main challenge to growing it is protecting it from cats. After the main bloom, plants should be cut back hard to encourage a second bloom and tidy shape.
