Datura inoxia - Moonflower, Pricklyburr, Angel's TrumpetFresh closed capsules, greenCapsules may open during shippingEach seed pod has 50+ seeds. 2024 Harvest.Seed pods were harvested from Datura inoxia plants organically grown in my backyard garden in Montana. As of now (October 20, 24), most seed capsules are closed. They will pop open within the next month or may open during shipping. As soon as most of them are open, I will revise this listing. Shake seeds out of the opened pod. Carefully (the pods are prickly) open the pod and remove the remaining seeds with a needle or knife tip.Spread seeds single layer onto a tray or plate and let dry for at least a week at room temperature. When fully dried, seeds will be slightly smaller and the reddish brown color turns to a darker brown. Store in paper bags.Planting Seeds:Plants can be started early inside and then planted outside after danger of frost has passed. They can also be seeded directly into the soil.Plants are drought resistant but do tolerate overwatering.Seeds and all other parts of this plant are toxic to humans and animals, they should be kept away from children and pets.Plants can grow 3 to 5 feet tall and are spreading out.Starting in August, spiky seed pods will appear. They pop open when seeds are ripe.Datura inoxia is an annual plant in growing zone 7 and lower. It is a perennial in zones 8-10.The scientific name is often cited as Datura innoxia. When English botanist Philip Miller first described the species in 1768, he misspelled the Latin word innoxia (inoffensive) when naming it D. inoxia.Other synonyms for D. inoxia are D. fastuosa, D. metel, and D. meteloides.Datura wrightii is a similar but different species. D. inoxia has all-white flowers and all ten tips poke out. D. wrightii may have lavender tinged flowers and only every other tip of the flower pokes out (five tips instead of ten)D. stramonium is also a different species
