Hibiscus Mahogany Splendor is a flowering perennial in the Malvaceae family. Its native range is from Burundi to southern tropical Africa. A unique plant with unusual foliage. It is perfect for mixed border colors and is suitable for containers. Mahogany Splendor can grow to around 3-5 feet tall 2-4 feet wide. The mahogany-colored leaves are serrated margins that resemble maple tree leaves. The leaves are evergreen and can tolerate high temperatures without wilting or browning. The flowers are 2-4 inches in diameter with light pink petals and a deep red center. It is a pest-free plant as well as a deer-resistant plant. It prefers to grow in full sun to part shade with average water needs and well-drained soil. Zones 8-10 Germination Sow seeds on top of the soil and lightly tamp down and cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 30-60 days.
