Phaseolus lunatus First introduced in 1883, these limas are climbers, growing to 10' in fertile soil! 5-7" flat pods that are filled with 4 to 6 cream colored seeds. Not well suited for northern growing conditions. 100 days. Plant 3-4 seeds per foot about 1-1/2" deep in rows 24-36" apart after danger from last frost is passed and soil is warmed up. Thin seedlings to 4-6" spacing. Alternately, you can start seeds indoors 2-3 weeks before the average date of the last frost and transplant when temps warm up. Choose a location that gets plenty of sun and provide a sturdy support structure that you put in place at planting time.
