Lagerstroemia indica is a tree in the Lythraceae family. A native of China and Korea. It can grow to 12 feet tall and 10 feet wide making a dome shape once mature. The flowers are bright purple from spring to summer. Grows best in rich, well-drained soils. It prefers full sun for the best results. The Catawba is considered one of the best flowering trees in zones 7-9. Germination Sow seeds 1/4" deep and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
