Lilium superbum is a 9-species perennial herb in the Liliaceae family. Its native range is eastern and central U.S. Familiar names include Turban Lily, Turk's Cap Lily, American Tiger Lily, and Swamp Lily. A good choice for wet conditions as well as a border plant. The roots were made into soups by the Native Americans. It is considered endangered in Florida, New Hampshire, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The name Turk's Cap comes from a reflexed hat worn by Turkish People. It can grow to around 7 feet tall and 12-18" wide with 3-7 blooms. They have been seen with up to 40 flowers on each stem. It is known it can grow in colors ranging from deep yellow to flame red. The flowers have a green center distinguishing them from the Asiatic tiger lily. They are in bloom from late summer to early fall.
