Albion Black Pods are easy-to-grow even when starting from seed and in difficult soils. The unique and attractive seed pods have made this a very popular flower. To dry the flowers or seed pods: Cut stems and hang upside down in cool location. Culinary Uses:Seeds - raw or cooked. It is normally used as a condiment having a nutmeg flavor. Medicinal Properties:Traditionally used as an expectorant. Planting Instructions:Sow seeds outdoors in early spring. The flower seed can be lightly covered with soil. Each plant has a short bloom season, so it is best to have successive plantings every three weeks to have blooms all season. Thin the seedlings to 8-10 inches between plants, and the plants should start blooming in three months. The plant is a ready self-seeder if you leave the seed pods on.
