Winter Rye makes extraordinary amounts of biomass during the off-season for most farmers, and it provides excellent forage for livestock and wildlife. The plant is hardy down to -30°F/-34°C, and will continue to grow in freezing temps. Planted densely, Rye can easily supress early season weeds and prevent erosion of topsoil.
