25 Organically Grown Marshmallow Seeds (Althaea Officinalis) – Medicinal Herb

25 Organically Grown Marshmallow Seeds (Althaea Officinalis) – Medicinal Herb Marshmallow is a native to Europe and parts of Asia. It is a member of the Malvaceae family. The common garden varieties are called Hollyhocks. The entire plant contains a slimy substance known as mucilage. The naturally high content of mucilage, especially in the marshmallow root, provides soothing support for irritated mucous membranes especially in the bronchioles, mouth, and intestines. Marshmallow is high in antioxidants. The plant grows to 4-6 feet tall. They prefer partial shade but can grow well in shade or full sun. The light pink flowers appear along the herbaceous stalk in mid to late summer of the second year. It may require a few years to produce roots large enough to harvest for medicine making. Planting & care instructions:** Requires 3 or 4 weeks of cold stratification for good germination if starting indoors or they can be sown directly in fall or early spring by scattering seeds in groups of 5 or 6. I’ve found the easiest way to start these is by winter sowing them in milk jugs. – To plant: cover seeds lightly and keep evenly moist. – Germinates in 4-6 weeks – Plant shade, partial shade or full sun – Space plants 12” apart We are happy to combine shipping on your orders.
