Penstemon eatonii is a perennial herb in the Plantaginaceae family. A native to the Western and Southern United States. Its common name is firecracker penstemon. You can find it growing in deserts, woodlands, forests, and even in the open plateau regions. It can grow to 2 feet tall and a foot wide. The inflorescence produces these bright red tubular flowers that can get about an inch long. It can grow in most soils in full sun to part shade. Good drainage always helps. Zones 4-9 Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-70F. Germination is in 21-30 days.
